YAFSTL Virtual Event - Best Practices for using Enscape with Revit

Hey eveyone,
Hope all of you are well in this new normal we are living in!  Being safe and practicing all that social distancing stuff.
With the absence of any upcoming STLRUG event, I wanted to bring your attention to a great virtual event coming up put on by the Young Architects Forum of St. Louis (YAFSTL) and the AIA of St. Louis.  The event brings one of the best speakers in the world on rendering in Revit with Enscape, and a good friend of the St. Louis User Group, Mr. Phil Read!

The event is on Wednesday, June 24th at 6 PM.  The registration link is below:

Our New Normal - Post 1

All-

I know many of us are still hard at work moving forward on our projects. While we are away and do not have the ability to converse with each other, I found a video from one of our leaders here, Brian Myers, about getting started in Navisworks over on LinkedIn.

I thought it was beneficial as I am starting to look into Navisworks and BIM360 for doing more coordination and I hope it will be beneficial to you as well.

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/revit_answering-one-of-the-most-common-questions-ugcPost-6651472394705780737-p60C

Hopefully our new normal will not last long and we will be able to see each other again soon to resume our wonderful learning and socializing opportunities together.

Until then...

BIM Manager's Toolkit Followup

Thank you all for coming out to listen to our presenters discuss their favorite BIM tools.

CTC Software presented by Matt Halveland of PGAV
https://ctcsoftware.com/

Ideate Software presented by Ellen Smith of Christner Architects along with Eric Bogenschutz of HOK

Ellen also presented Enscape:

Chris Link, our gracious host, provided two different applications. RushForth Projects and iConstruct links below.

And finally, Micah Gray from GMA Architects, looked at pyRevit, Dynamo, JOTools, and TwinMotion.

Also, here is a helpful script in Dynamo for turning off the Internal Origin point in Revit.

As mentioned at the meeting, we are looking at having a business meeting to discuss the STLRUG business that has not been discussed recently. We will look to have that meeting in mid- to late March. Be on the look out for an invite to that. This will not be one of our regular presentations.

And again, we will be having our Happy Hour in April after the AGCMO DCTC event.

Look forward to seeing everyone over the next couple of months.

December 2019 Learning Event

With the smell of the turkey and cranberry sauce behind us, it is time to get back to Revit before the holiday season.

We will have a couple of students from Washington University conducting a mock BIM Execution Plan meeting for their final exam. And then we will turn our attention to our own BIM Execution Plans. What is the language that has been helpful to have in your BIMxP and what has been detrimental or could have been worded differently to avoid ambiguity or confusion?

If you have a BIM Execution Plan that you want to share before the meeting, email it to stlouisrug@gmail.com

AGCMO - BIM Education Program - 2019 Sessions

BIM is Back in 2019

The benefits and prevalence of BIM (Building Information Modeling) has grown. If your company hasn’t invested in it, it’s at least worth getting to know about it. Its staying power over the last decade has established it in the construction industry. Autodesk BIM 360 recently published Top Ten Benefits of BIM in Construction, an article summarizing the areas in which BIM has made headway in the construction industry. It’s a good read to get a synopsis.

The AGC of America has been developing the BIM Education Program (Units 1-4 & CM-BIM exam) for almost a decade, and Missouri is lucky in that some of the early authors of the program are still teaching it here. The program has been fine-tuned, and the AGCMO is offering it again this year.

The AGC of America BIM Program is returning to the AGCMO Construction Training School in March of 2019, followed by a group study session to prepare participants for the exam. The CM-BIM certification test will be scheduled at the testing center on a day/time that works for participant schedules.

2018 BIM participants work on the LEGO exercise in Unit 3, BIM Project Execution Planning. AGCMO’s launch of the new BIM Program in its 3rd Edition in 2018 was a success with a 100% pass rate on the first delivery of the 3rd Edition CM-BIM exam.

2019 BIMForum in St. Louis - Call for Proposals

Hey St. Louis AEC Professionals, hope your 2019 has started off great!!

I wanted to call your attention to an amazing opportunity coming in September of 2019.
The 2019 BIMForum will be held right here in the great city of St. Louis!  The event is planned for September 16-18, 2019 and will be held at the Hyatt Regency Downtown by the Arch.
The call for proposals for the event is now open and this is a great opportunity to showcase how the St. Louis area is using technology enabled workflows and collaboration strategies to improve our delivery methods and build better facilities for our clients.  This is also a great conference to learn how other firms across our country are improving their practices.

The link to the Call for Proposals is below and they are looking to showcase the following:

BIMForum is looking to highlight case studies of how the building community is driving quantitative and qualitative outcomes through the development of model-centric workflows that address the entire design-build-operate continuum. In addition, we’re seeking to better understand the current cultural shifts and revisit the “human side of BIM” from past BIMForums. This will enable us to drive a better understanding of leadership qualities and strategies needed to produce the return on investment of BIM that comes from the refinement of traditional workflows and business practices as well as the growth of collaborative project delivery strategies. In the spirit of the conference being in the “Show Me State,” preference will be given to those presentations capable of demonstrating tangible examples of how metric-based results were achieved within the areas of interest defined above. Additional areas of interest are case studies on the following:

  • Model-centric workflows, model reliability, less reliance on drawings.
  • The scalability of a BIM to address project delivery models beyond Design-Bid-Build, such as Design-Build, Design Assist and IPD.
  •  Legal challenges of BIM, what went wrong?
  • Advances in BIM contract language.
  •  Implementation of BIM Execution Plans.
  • Standards for the use of BIM and data throughout the lifecycle of projects.
Link to BIMForum 2019 Call for Proposals:

Don't miss out on this great opportunity!
I will make another post with links to the Registration page once that is open.
